• vSphere 7.0 U3c has been released and includes the LOG4J patch.  Please review the information below before upgrading. There are a number of changes you should review.

• The open source Apache Log4J project has announced a zero day vulnerability with versions 2.14.1 and earlier. Any systems using those affected software components should patch or take preventative action immediately.  Read below for more details on how VMware is responding.

• VMware announced a heap-overflow vulnerability for VMs configured to use an ISO image or host device in the CD-Rom.  Read below for details on the issue as well as preventative steps you can take.

• NSX-V is coming towards end of life.  Customers should migrate to NSX-T.
• ESX hosts using SD-Cards or USB Media to boot should be aware that support for this is ending. The TAM Customer webinar in early December will cover this extensively.  vSphere 7 Update 3b has important fixes that avoid some known issues with SD-Cards.
• vCenter Server 7 Update 3b resolves issues upgrading vSphere hosts running 7.0 U2 and later to vSphere 7 U3.  Review the release notes for full details.
• vSphere 7 Update 3b resolves a number of issues found in Update 3 and Update 3a.  Review the release notes for full details.

NSX-V – End of Life reminder – NSX-V is End of Life and will be out of support on January 16, 2022.  If you are running NSX-V you need to migrate to NSX-T.  The licenses you have today do work with NSX-T.  There are 2 methods to migrate.  There is also a whitepaper on migrating from NSX-V to NSX-T.

Updates on booting ESXi hosts SD-cards/USB Sticks – vSphere 7.0 Update 3 has been released which automates the settings to allow ESX hosts to safely use SD-Cards.  Refer to the information in the Notes from the Field section below for full details.

Some new information upgrading to vSphere 7.0 Update 2 if your hosts have SD-cards/USB Sticks.   VMware has released KB 82515 which provides guidance on  booting ESXi from low endurance media.    While you should read the KB, there are 2 key points:

• SD-Cards are not depreciated in vSphere 7.x.  You do need to read and understand the info noted below.  There is action you need to take when upgrading.  If you do not, you run the risk of your SD-Cards failing while the host is running.
• VMware does strongly recommend transitioning away from USB/SD-Card boot devices

If your hosts use USB Boot Media (SD-Cards, USB Sticks, etc) there is some important information you need to read before you upgrade.    Refer to the information in the Notes from the Field section below for full details.
